Construction of set of cogeneration units in Piła

Challenge

For its client, the municipal heating company in Piła, Metrolog has been successful in the tender process aiming to implement project of the installation of a set of gas-fired cogeneration units according to the "design and build" formula. The city of Piła is in the north western part of Poland and has approximately 74.000 inhabitants.

One of the main challenges was to obtain a certificate of conformity for the entire set of pressure devices of the CHP plant issued by a notifying body.  Metrolog also had to supervise the CHP plant operation, which the company has been obliged to do in connection with the contractual requirements.

Solution

The system consists of three cogeneration units with a total thermal capacity of 8,362 MW and an electrical capacity of 8,501 MW. As part of the investment, heat recovery installations from gas engines and exhaust gases, mixture cooling, emergency cooling, lubricating oil, gas supply, ventilation and electrical installation were made. The cogeneration source was placed in a new building that has been constructed for this purpose only.

The installation made based on gas sources and solar collectors will reduce emissions, improve air quality and have a positive impact on the energy security of the city, and highly effective solutions soundproofing the operation of cogeneration engines will minimize the impact of the installation on the environment.
